I was looking at putting in a t5 when I drop my 302 in my 72 comet. My question is exactly what all will I need? I found a cheap s10 with a t5 and was wondering what all parts I can rob off it for my setup. And I'm on a tight budget at the moment so I will try to avoid the high dollar stuff. Don't need it to be race ready yet. Thanks in advance
I believe that you would only want a T5 transmission from a Fox body Mustang. Preferably 1989-1993, and only from a V8 5.0L Google is your friend, been done many times on vintage Ford cars, especially Mustangs. http://moderndriveline.com/Technical_Bits/transmission_spec.htm Tons of information on the modern driveline website.
If you want to find a reasonable T5 find one from a late 90's V6 Mustang, they are cheap and will bolt to the 302. It has the same rating as the mid/late 80's GT and will hold up fine behind a stock V8. You will need the larger flywheel which you can get from a truck and the clutch setup from the V6 Mustang. The clutch linkage will need to be worked out, the T/O bearing arm is lower than the Fox but it shouldn't be too difficult. I paid $150 for mine and it had less than 90k on it.
