I have a 1965 Comet with a 289 and a 650 4bbl, engine rebuilt a few months ago, I have recently had the transmission rebuilt and the rear (8inch) rebuilt. Right before i had the tran rebuilt, it felt like i had lost 3rd gear, the fluid smelled very bad, so the mechanic built the transmission stronger and put a stall converter in. I did drive the car quite a bit around town yesterday, and it was bloody hot, but my oil pressure + temperature seemed to be displaying like normal so I thought nothing of it. however after having the car back 4 days, only driving it above 60mph three times, the fluid smells burnt again, there's a terrible oil leak around the bellhousing, and oil pooling inside the bellhousing, and it feels like it may have lost third gear again. Am i doing something wrong or is the mechanic?
did you make sure the high presure valve under the filter was installed, it will fall out when you drop the filter, will cause slippage and will burn up transmission if left out, had mine changed at a quick lube once and they left it out, I didn't drive it far ,dropped pan and installed one and it fixed it, maybe all yours needs , fingers crossed
The mechanic did all the work, my dad thinks he's trustworthy + fair, but I've had issues with just about everything he's done, to this car and my brothers truck. I'm debating between checking this and just having the mechanic be the one to crack it open.
Use a different mechanic...If you do it yourself, you will know if the check ball and spring were left out when you remove the filter.
see if the band backed off its adjusted on the drivers side in front of linkage, theres also 1 on the back side of the passer. side of trans, these back off and it will slip and burn fluid but change fluid and adjust again and try it out ,you need to lock tite these
First - with a high stall converter you need a big trans cooler! Second - use only type F oil in your C4 (I bet he used dexronIII/Mercon) Third - If you are spending more than $800 for your rebuild then contact Jay at Broader Performance and get a real C4 built to take up to 500 hp. Fourth - if he won't warranty the work he is not doing a good enough job. He needs to fix the trans on his dime and make it right.
if he did it would have been 36 bad transmissions in a row right? or, I will give you the benefit of the doubt it would have been only oneand done!!!!
