Why not build your own? The C4 is really easy to work with...very simple. A rebuild kit is what, $80 now? Last kit I bought was $45....seals, gaskets, clutches, steels, and seal rings.

That guy is just down the road from me. I've often wondered about the quality of his tranny's. Do it yourself, cheap and easy!!

Ok I'll try to rebuild myself. I will get the video and book. Also I have a few Questions.

What special tools are needed to do a rebuild?

whats it take to install 5 clutch pack?

what are the best performance clutchs?

Are there any other performance upgrades that should be done in the rebuild?

    Thanks Jim

Hello thanks for the replys. The maverick will probly never see a drag stip but i do what the trans to hold if i deside to.

It will have a 3000rpm stall and 4.11 rear gears, The desktop dyno shows 420hp & 390tq so I am hoping to get 350hp.

    thanks Jim

I get my parts from Makco Distributing.

If you do it yourself I suggest getting a thrust washer assortment kit. This is how you set the endplay. You can re-use them but endplay always end up different - probably because I've always had to mix and match parts from different transmissions. The only special tool you need is a spring compression tool to change the O ring behind the pressure plate on the forward drum. I've made one out of a piece of 2-1/2 inch exhaust tubing and a vice that works.

A 3000 stall and 4.11 and no drag strip???

Let me guess, just long-distance, cross-country highway driving :p

xpsnake, I heard bad things about the TCI trannies. i was going to use their kit to rebuild the c-6 in my highboy and there was a lot of negs on it on the web and amongst my pro mechanic friends and family members. I bought the more expensive PA c-4 for my car, havent run it yet though. it had a lifetime warranty up to 450 horses so i figured i should be G2G. just a heads up.

The only thing from tci i ever used didnt work worth a crap!! A super street fighter torque converter that was supposed to be a 3500 was actually 2000.
