When I get my maverick together it should run mid 7's on motor and high 6's to low 7's on nitrous. I mainly like the anything goes tracks so I could get away without a cage. Then again if I wreck this thing at 90mph a cage seems nice. I am thinking about a 6pt cage. What is your opinion cage or no cage. I am not sure how I want to go

Cage is a must to me,cause what your not thinking about is the guy who just went out and bought a high 4sec car and is gonna hit you at over 130...

very true. most wrecks I have seen are in 8-9 second cars with a young driver.

I would say at least a 6 point roll bar to be safe.

I want a 6-point in mine. Just not to that point in the project yet.

Scared of the other guy, not myself.

a cage will not only make it safer, it will help the car go faster. the rigidety a cage adds is significant. the perfromance should increse because the chassi is not flexing as much wich absorbs horsepower that can be used to go faster. ive always noticed that every aspect of the car increases with a cage. it will stop faster and more controled. it will handle beter, and go faster. if you are concerned about weight then get a cromolly cage. its about half the weight of a mild steel cage.

Other things you need is a good harness, helmet, jacket, and a neck pad.Shoes and gloves are also a really good idea your hands and feet are the first things to get burned in a fire, also a fire system is a nice thing to have the less than $350.Alot of people say you dont need anything thats not required but when it comes to your personal saftey your the one that has to decide whats inmportant.

I have never had any of the fancy clothing. All I wear is workboots jeans t shirt and helmet when driving the mustang and its an 8.0 car.

reminds me that I need to go and get mine done. I like a cage even on the road, who knows when some drunk dude decides to plow you with his daddy's H2 Hummer.

Well, if you are racing on tracks that let you get away without a cage in sub 11 sec car, and allow you to only have a helmet with no thought to fire protection.......................I can only imagine what kind of safety crew they have.
Maybe it's because I am a licensed Tech Inspector for the SCCA, but I take my safety and other peoples very seriously. Although my Maverick is considerably slower than yours, I would not be caught dead without a full suit, shoes, neck brace, nomex underware, and gloves not to mention a full 6/8/10 point cage.
As for the cage some people hit the nail on the head..............making the chassis stiffer means quicker chassis reaction and more consistance runs plus the safety factory which should be first on your hit list........unless you feel 100% "bullet proof". I just have a hard time believing any strip would have such a disregard for safety!

    IMHO

    1972 Mav 2 dr, 1971 Mav 2 dr...thanks Old Guy!

Yeah...you have to be careful though...unless you drive around wearing a helmet on the street. Bouncing your head off the side of your upright will scramble your brain quite nicely without one, and as cool as it looks having a door bar in a street car...without the harness holding you in place...it will do a number on your ribs, arm, and leg...speaking from experience. One of my best friends was almost killed when he got hit in his Mustang with a 6-point cage. Fractured skull, broken arm, leg, and a couple of broken ribs...and from a fairly mild impact. He eventually recovered...but we still wonder about if he would have been injured nearly as badly if his car had not had the cage. Just food for thought...not trying to talk anyone out of...or into...anything.

    408w-maverick,

Sorry, my fingers are faster than my mind..................I meant sub 7 seconds in the 1/8mile, not 11.
A mid 6 second time in the 1/8 should get you to mid 10's in the 1/4.........everything I said is still valid.

    IMHO
