Will I need to cut or fab anything to put caltracks on my comet ? I would be buying the whole kit. Looked up some info but it dosent really tell me.
The kit is completely bolt on. You will need to press the rubber bushing out of the front eyelet in your leaf springs and replace it with the aluminum bushing that comes in the kit but it is basically bolt on.
Pressing those front rubber bushings out sounds a lot easier than it tends to be lol. If you don't have a press, I'd remove the springs and take them to somewhere/someone who does. For some reason, I thought it seemed like a good idea to press them out myself by just dropping the front of the springs...I was WRONG lol! Learn from my mistake Just my 2 cents...
That's kind of what I thought...but it didn't work out too well. The rubber bushing has a steel sleeve around the outside of it, which becomes almost welded to the inside of the spring eye. I wound up eventually pushing the rubber out, and then using a chisel to get enough of the steel sleeve bent up to get a grip on the sleeve enough to destroy it to come out. It can be done...I did it...but if I had it to do over, I'd remove the springs and press them out with a press. I kept one of the sleeves, just to remind me of how big a PITA it was lol. It's out in one of the drawers in my shop. On a positive note...once the old ones are out, the new ones press in pretty easily with a little grease . You won't just press them in by hand though...
