Elliot, we made ours but is a bit tough if you don'thave access to some machine work. Used 1in black iron pipe and both right and left hand thread nuts. End links from tractor supply store. The bracket on the spring perch plate is easy to fabricate but the two that have adjustable holes and fit on each side of the foward spring eye with the cross bolt that goes on top of the main leaf(with nylon sleeve) is a bit more difficult to calculate. Used 1/4 in steel plate. Love to build things but sometimes the extra money and time savings is well worth it. However our homemade ones have een on the drag only Mav for many years and no problems, after initial adjustment was made for preload, they have never been touched. The factory ones are by far the best and carry some sort of warranty, maybe, but hot rodding and such, came from backyard mechanics trying different things on there own ingunuity. I ended up running the Competition Engineering Slide-A-Link made for an older Mustang. I had no trouble fitting it and it's adjustable. The cost is about the same and I wanted to be different.
I've heard that the slide a links are better for cars that see alot of street action, they have a bushing in the link and are not as agressive as the Cal Tracs......

thanks this was at baytown they keep the track ready to race at all times i had a lot of fun this year at baytown we ran for points their the car hooks up hard this was my first year at baytown the GM boys had the teck man to check the car for a trans-brack they made my day love them GM boys i run no/e it does not have one
Fordman I was wondering if you`d give a quick rundown of all of your suspension set up (front and rear). I am about to begin trying to set mine up to hook a little better and it looks like you pretty much have things figured out! I want to know what springs you have front and rear, and do you have clamps on the rears?.....Travel limiters up front ?...what shocks? ect, ect. Thanks
i have 1968 falcon springs they move the rear up one inch with the ssm bars and a 50/50 shocks you have to have them to make this work i have cut the springs in back of the houseing the front springs are trick springs they are longer than the maverick 6cly spring and have more coils the front shock is comp engineering three way on 60/40 but it all works good for the $$$ you can do the front and back for what the cal-tracks cost ?????just e mail if i can help
Thanks for filling us in on your set up, Do you have aftermarket axles in that 8 inch??? I figured the way that thing launches it would need a 9" in it to stay together.
it is a 9" mustang with a stock 31 spline ford axle 3.70 ford gear with full spool the full spool cut 25 lb out of the rear end
OOPS I thought it was an 8 " cause it looked kinda small,probably `cause you dont have a gas tank under there. My car also has a 9 " but its from a 57 Ford and it has the smooth looking rear "pumpkin" and the axle tubes are 3" all the way to the backing plates. I`m running 4.11`s with a mini spool by the way.
what all did you have to do to make the falcon springs fit ? and where did you get the front coils ? thanks for all you`r info every one
