I got this rust free trunk for $10, the only problem is this dent in it, should I hammer it out from the inside or what? I was thinking cutting the corner off another and welding it in place http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/707/trunkdentlg7.jpg
I guess we wouldn't want to answer the guy's question In the way it's damaged right on the corner like that, I think it would be a tricky repair, but not impossible. If you have access to a stud welder, you could attach a couple studs along the area where it's creased and then use a slide hammer on the studs to carefully pull the crease out. This would probably leave a couple high spots that would need to be hammered down afterwards, and then a thin coat of filler should smooth it out.
I would repair it. Maple's suggestion is the best method but you might be able to get at it from the back side. There are access holes. If none are directly behind the dent, you could always drill a few just big enough to get a large screwdriver in there and tap it out.
why does it have to be a "stud" welder ? wouldn't a "foxy" welder be better? ... ...m/ms' friend frank...
put the lid on and make sure it fits correctly. it might be sprung on that corner... if so i would get it straight first then do the repair...frank...
Fan2488 has taught me that with a little patience, almost any dent can be pounded out. I worked about 2 hours on a quarter sized dent on the edge near my headlight. Very tight spot to hit at from the inside. Bought a long pointed hammer and worked at it lightly, and it is almost straight. Just a little filler will be needed to finish it off.
hey thanks for the advice, there is a large triangular shaped hole and a cirlce shaped hole right behind it so its pretty easy access, i see how it goes. If it dont work out it'll be over in the for sale section lol, wish me luck
so I did a few minutes of hammering today, it came out a little easier than expected. the "roll" still looks a little bad but I think I can get it. if you look to the right of the pic you can see the tools I used on the job today sorry for the cell phone pics
