Got it on a stand, and want to paint it before I put it in. Preferably Ford's blue pattern.

Don't know if the oil pan is painted or not, heads, etc.

Also, any suggestions for how to paint a unassembled engine keeping paint out of the sensitive spots, or should I just wait until it is assembled?

So the oil pan is typically blue also:16suspect

I would have guessed it would be black or silver (gold milodon).

I would rather have it not black like mine is. I could not tell if I had an oil leak until it dripped off the pan onto the ground. But then, I painted it black when I first got it, and don't remember what color it was stock.

I guess I should wait until it is mostly put together before I paint?

On second look, I guess not. All the bolts are black suggesting the parts were painted BEFORE installation...

    I like your phrase!

I would paint after all together, unless you have head studs (don't want paint on studs) mask the studs up. Old pair of valve covers an old intake will keep your pearlies pearl! Also old oil filter and cardboard over your fuel pump boss,,,boss!

I bolted the heads on mine and painted it that way, the intake was painted off the engine, so if I want to change it, there won't be a problem getting it apart and cracking the paint, same with the timing cover.

Ed, I really like the "blue-silver-blue-silver" theme you have going there. Still have the 'pan blue, but I like the silver offset of the intake, v-covers, and REALLY like that silver water pump. Just breaks it up a bit and draws the eye to it...

I think I will go that way on mine...(y)
