down in mississippi where i live all of the dragstrips are closed for the winter. i cant wait until spring when they open back up so that i can put my 411 in and hopefully get a locker. im not sure why they are closed, because our whole winter has been in the mid 50s to 60s.
Same here. The Maverick's done with it's freshen up. It's actually parked at the drag strip as we speak. Dad & his Fairmont ran the New Year's Race yesterday with his new Flying Toilet/alcohol. He said it needs some tuning, but so far, it's still a full tenth and 4-5 mph faster in the 1000'. It was REALLY fat to start with. With an 84 pill it went 8.95. Changed to a 105 pill and picked up a tenth and 2 mph. Needs smaller nozzles...... Luckily, I've got 2 mustangs that are being worked on. The SVO is my driver....and is currently receiving some updates to the turbo/EFI. The other one ('85 LX hatchback/5.0/AOD) is for sale, but needs a little TLC before it is sold. So...yeah....I've got enough to keep my pretty busy for the next month or so.
I'm glad you guys are ready for some racin...maybe later on in the season I can get some race time in..lot of water under that bridge right now...good luck yall...Jim
I like drag racing and it gets my rocks off but I have other hobbies such as extreme atving available when drag racing is unavailable. I suggest you guys do the same or some such!!!!!
sometimes i wish we had a little more downtime. last race was dec 12th. i had tranny problems the day before at tucson so i missed the 12th at firebird. with all the holidays and family time i just got the new tranny in today. leaving for virginia beach on wednesday the 11th, so i'll miss the first race of the season at firebird in phoenix. i get back on the 17th and the first race in tucson is the 21st. seems like there's just not enough time. i wonder how i got anything done when i was working.
don.. you could always bring the mav down.. and you and i can put it in at the track.. jsut let me know if you need any help.. its the least i could do...
Fastmav I just wanted you to know not all tracks are closed. Fulton opened yesterday and any sunday hereafter if the air temp is PREDICTED to be 40 are above for the day.
As sorry as I was to see the track close for the year it turned out to be a blessing in disguise, new pistons will be in anyday now, then the block is off to be bored. I hope the new pistons weigh within 50 grams each of the old ones so I don't need a rebalance on the rotating assembly, I've had some time to do some deep cleaning and upgrades...only thing left is new rubber for the rear. If the car makes it through the season with no probs, Santa is bringin me a set of Blue Thunder heads for X-mas next year, whether he likes it or not:evilsmile
Same here Lance. I have 3 hobbies. Drag racing, ATV'ing, and chasing women....in no particular order. The weather has been so dry here lately that ATV'ing is nearly out of the question. A few of the WMA's that we ride at are closed due to abnormally dry weather & fear of fires. One of them has already experienced a fire that burned about 40 acres. The MX track is open though and I just might make a trip up there to ride around, albeit slowly. This old body just can't take the beating that it used to.
finished putting the new tranny and convertor in today. also checked the valve train, put in new header gaskets. need to check the rear then i'm ready to go on the 21st for the first team race in tucson.
I'm married so I had to stop chasing women I always wondered once you caught one what happend. I still haven't figured it out. I here ya. So many injuries in the past 4 years I am slowing down a bit myself. I'm tough but I aint superman
Hmm...good question. I guess that goes along with dogs chasing cars. What's he gonna do when he catches the car? LOL
