I ordered a carburetor for my 73 Mav 302 and it came in today. My question is: The carbs not exactly like mine but it will work just fine. On the one I received, I have a vent on the top of the bowl where the float is located. The one on my Mav doesn't have this vent. What exactly is it for and where would it connect? Or can I just plug it?
Like Larry said.. it's supposed to be there. And FYI.. all carbs have a bowl vent by necessity.. but this one just has it in a more obvious location than you're accustomed to, is all.
Those vents were hooked into the charcoal canister line. Part of the Ford EVAP system. You can leave it open and you might smell gas on hot days. Or you can tee it into the tank return line from the canister if you have one yet. Like the other guys said - just don't plug or cap it.
I read online that it runs to a charcoal canister. I do have one that has a vent tube going to the fuel tank. I can just connect it to that instead since at this time the tank I installed does not have a vent and the canister is just sitting there dormant. I'm planning on installing a vent on the tank and installing a "T" so both the tank and carb will be happy.
Yes, you can attach it to your existing canister. This will eliminate the smell of gas from venting out of the carb.
