I'm wondering who else here has a Carter YF 1bbl Carburetor in their Mav (not the YFA). My Chilton book here which is basically a multi car book covering nearly all domestic cars from 72-79 doesn't go into much detail on this Carburetor. It details the YFA though which doesn't help me much. Anyways I need to know how to properly adjust the Air/Fuel Mixture on this thing as I believe highly that mine is running way too lean. It doesn't have a Throttle Solenoid or anything nothing electric on it at all just yer basic bare bones 1bbl Carburetor. Any assistance would be appreciated thanks. 71 Grabber (Project Car) 85 Club Wagon 94 Taurus GL Sedan FFV
Easiest way for you is the use of a vacuum gauge. Adjust for the highest reading. If there are acceleration problems then the pump shot and/or setting may need a look at. If the engine is unmodified, the stock jetting should be ok. The distributor advance can create a hesitation if you may be chaseing that kind of problem. How the engine is equipped will make a difference on performance and setting. The YF carb was specified on the 170 and 200 engines 71 to 74 and there are different setups depending on how equipped. My reference it the factory volume 6 Engine and Emmission systems with all the equipped variations and hose hookup etc.
