We finally got around to laying in the carpet, just to get an idea of how it fits, and it seems a little big...??? We have a '75 with the cat hump, and this is ACC carpet with the correct hump provision. Even so, it doesn't sit down on the trans tunnel very well. It's kind of bunched up and loose, at least at the front toward the dash. It just seems like there's several inches around the entire perimeter edge that's keeping it from snuggling down into place. I suppose I need to cut it, but I'm afraid of cutting off too much. Also, what is the correct procedure for... 1. cutting the front most corners to fit right without bunching up? 2. cutting all the bolt holes? 3. how much do you leave overhanging the lower door sills? And finally, I'm pretty sure I've read that the carpet shouldn't be glued down - is that correct? Should it be glued anywhere???
Mine fit like that, too. I bought 74 model for a 74, and assumed it had extra for cat hump. Maybe that is just how they fit?
I had to trim mine, also. My carpet did not come frm ACC and was a one piece unit. If I did it agn I wud go w/ 2 pc carpet. I don't believe any are an exact fit. Like mentioned, cut a little at a time.
When you take them out of the box, they don't lay down very well, put it in place and give it a few days to relax. I have a 1 piece ACC carpet, and it fits very well.
X 2... Yep that works well, mine looked a little bunched up but after it settled a day or so it was fine, as for trimming I am sure they are all somewhat different but I took about an inch off of mine under the sill plates, the screws holding in the kick panels I left in place and just felt around for them and cut a small circle out for them to go back into when I reinstalled the kick panels.
I did'nt put any glue on my install. I put it dwn over alum face ins/deadner and it lays just fine. No shifting or moving. I don't believe there is any need for glue.
Mine never did fit right over the shifter hump. Fits fine everywhere else. Just a little extra material under my floor shifter.
