I am interested in replacing the carpet in my car. I see most people are using A.C.C. brand carpets. The Question I have is POLY backing or MASS backing? It seems like both are shipped with a jute pad. Thank You for the insight.
I bought the Mass Backing also! It seems very durable and less likely to tear or poke-through, yet it cuts very nicely with a razor blade from the back side. Mine also came with the jute padding adhered to the Mass/Rubber Backing. When I first started fitting it to the car, it seemed really heavy and hard to work, but after I set it out for a day or so, it was much better. Also realize that my carpet sat folded in a box for almost 3 years... my bad! I'm happy with it. I used the one-piece 80/20 Loop carpet.
Thank You! I bought it through Rock Auto. It is ACC Carpet with the Mass Backing. 80/20 Loop. It was a very reasonable cost and shipping. $168 + $22 Shipping to the Maine/New Brunswick Border.
Unfortunately, I have no test data yet... I just installed mine a week or so ago and the rest of the car is still in pieces until I can get some time to install my vinyl top, but this stuff is thick and heavy. It's GOTTA cut down the noise at least.
Not even close, if you are comparing apples-to-apples... Automotive Interiors Black Loop 1-piece with Mass Backing: $214.50 Carpet $18.00 Shipping to Maine $232.50 TOTAL Rock Auto Black Loop 1-piece with Mass Backing : $166.79 Carpet $21.99 Shipping to Maine -$8.34 Discount for MMB Members (5%) $180.44 TOTAL
Wow. The carpet I got from them wasn't mass backing. It was $122.00 shipped, and that was cheaper than any other vendor. I assumed that if they had the best price on that, they'd have the best price on the other.
Automotive Interiors charge an additional $84 for the Mass Backing. I remember searching through all the different vendors and retailers looking for the best deal when I bought mine. I've had good luck with Rock Auto and I had a ton of other parts to order from them too, so it seemed like the right thing to do. I would highly recommend the Mass Backing though. I just compared AI and RA for non-Mass Backing carpet: AI shipped to Maine is $148.00 Total RA shipped to Maine is $127.89 Total
I've replaced my carpet twice over the past 18 years. I don't remember ever ordering "mass backing", but I do know that the first carpet I put in had a thicker backing down the center where the driveline tunnel is. It was also a pain in the ass to put the seat tracks back in because it didn't sit flat against the floor on each side of the tunnel (until it was stretched). The carpet that's in there now was much easier to install, and didn't fight me like the previous one.
