Does anyone have experiance with changing a 3 speed column shifter to a floor shifter? What brand is better Hurst or Mr. Gasket? Any advice?

I've never done a 3 speed, but on a T-5 5 speed a Hurst shifter makes a noticable difference. Shorter throw and more positive feel.

I believe Mr. Gasket owns Hurst now (or maybe the other way around) so quality should be about the same either way.

I've done exactly that. My '70 was a "three-in-the-tree". I changed that to a floor shift using a Hurst kit, worked ok. Then I installed a Toploader 4 speed and ran both Mr. Gasket and Hurst shifters on it. Didn't really notice a difference in performance but the Hurst was easier to get new bushings and spring pins for when it came time to rebuild/ tune the shifter. Now I have a T5 in there. The two-bolt Hurst sticks bolt right on to the T5's shifter, you just need to use metric bolts.

corbin johnson on this board recently did this conversion using all junk yard/orginal parts. If you search the boards, you should get quite a bit of info on this.
