Jackstands, a floor jack... A transmission jack is nice to have but not needed. Common tools, sockets, a couple of wobble extensions. Nothing special. Raise it up about like this and you're good to go.

the higher you get the cqr the better. Makes it easier to slide the tRANS out under the rocker panels.

    disconnect the battery cable...

    if it's a C-4 it will be messy...:yup:

it's nice to have a...Driveshaft yoke...to put in the tailshaft to help keep it from leaking. if not put a sandwich bag and duct tape around the end.
also drain as much fluid as possible before removing.(by backing out the pan bolts)

remove the driveshaft...converter bolts...dipstick tube... starter...
speedo cable...shifter linkage...mod. vac. hose and disconnect the transmission lines (with a GOOD SET of line wrenches)

worse case...you may have to drop the exhaust :yup:

you will need to...block up the engine.
the...converter...will slide off the shaft, so try to keep it pushed back into the transmission...

on the ...ground... this is a 2 man job...for the "First-timer"

    be safe an enjoy....:yup:

You said you are going to do a swap. What are you swapping it for? If it's a later tranny make sure the input splines are the same. In 1970 they changed from 24 to 26 splines on the input shaft. Who knows what Ford did and when they actually changed them. If they are the same you're good to go, If not you'll also need a new torque convertor. Just FYI.:)

welcome. I would reccomend you get a transmission jack because it makes it so much easier. I got mine at harbor freight for about $90

MAKE SURE YOU FLUSH OUT THE LINES AND THE TRANS. COOLER.They sell transmission line flush at your local parts store. Me myself I like to put the stands in the front of the car(on the framerail of course) so they dont get in your way when youre crawling around under the car,the small stands dont usually go up high enough to be comfortable under the car,put something STURDY AND SOLID under or over the stands so theyll be up high enough like bricks or wood.Dont forget you can NEVER be too safe,if you got some extra wheels laying around put them under the front tires so if the stands fail or the car falls it will fall on the wheels, not your ass!Good Luck:tiphat:
