Hey all! Gonna go ahead and do a small thread on my cheapo 4 door project! First off , I bought this car for 535$ on ebay. Having never seen or even heard of a ford maverick before. But I just loved how the back looked. It just had that camaro/mustang style rear end that looks very sporty and cool. However , it is a 4 door model , one of the later ones with that ugly brown paint , giant bumpers , a 6 cylinder engine , and an automatic transmission. After researching the car I couldn't believe they turned such a cool little sports car , into this. Someone had started restoring it , but I thought , why? Unless it was sentimental value , the original car just isn't very cool or desirable. Which is why it sat on ebay for 800$ , then relisted again for 535$. I'm going to change that , and try to make it look like the cool car it is , or at least the way I see it. Turn this sad brown car into something people will like! Loose the "grandpa" look and take on something more sporty! First , here's how It came. First thing I did was straighten out that fender bender as best I could. The car came with no trim , seems to have been lost. So there is not windshield , rear window , door , or side molding trim. So I pulled off what was left of the trim on the front fenders , and popped off all the little body mounts for the missing trim pieces and bondo over all the holes. I also had to fix a big rust hole in the front fender. As for paint ideas , I came up with a design similar to the Sabre GT in GTA4. I ultimately chose the yellow , but here was my little doodles I did in ms paint before hand. And yes , I'm going to paint the door frames and b pillar black to help loose that 4 door look a bit. That's about as far along as I am currently. Tomorrow it's getting yellow!
i was going to ask. so now i have to ask is it a real movie one or just one painted like the movie ones? the 4 door cars can be made to look really cool with the right touches. should be a fun project.
It's just painted like the movie ones. For the movie , universal studios only built three , two got destroied and the last one is at the islands of adventure theme park.
Update , got a whole bunch of painting done today. Still have to paint the rims , grille , and door frames , also reassemble the interior. I also have to make something to fill the space between where the bumper and the trunk meet. The rubber bumper filler is missing.
They must drive the car with the skull on the hood as well? Are you doing this with spray cans? If you did, how many did it take?
Whats with the Johnson boat motor cover being used ase a bucket. What year is it and is it for sale, boat part that is.
Naw , the skull car is mine , because I'm hard core rock and roll. Yes I rattle can. It's cheap , I dont own a compressor or spray guns or anything. It has taken about 6 cans of yellow and maybe 3 cans of flat black , also 2 cans of primer for the areas that were not primed already. Yea I know... I just find things lying around that barn and use them. I was also using it as a box to stand on so I could paint the roof. It's like a 62-64? Johnson electric seahorse 40hp hood. I have the whole motor in that barn. It stopped working like in 2008 but if you want it come buy it from me , I sure don't need it. I got other retro boats and motors sitting in there too.
I painted the rims today and fixed the rear bumper filler , pics as soon as I find my camera charger , lol.
