How do you guys and gals get it clean? I have paint on some pieces. I want to get it off of some window trim and headlight bezels and stuff. I've heard of putting stuff in the oven in clean mode, but I've got to hear if it's been tried or not by some of you guys before I smell up my oven, ,which I bet it would do.
If your trying to get paint off of stainless trim, I use 0000 steel wool. For more stubborn spots dip it in lacquer thinner.
A little fine grade steel wool and some laquer thinner does the trick. If the trim is off the car, I brush a little paint stripper on and whip the paint off with some steel wool soaked in soapy water. I only have done this with the stainless trim. Works every time.
You can scrub as much as you want on the Window trim ... it's stainless and can be buffed to look like new. Be gentle with the aluminum ... if you remove the anodization it won't look very good unless you remove all the anodization ... then you'll have to polish it weekly to keep it from oxidizing ...
That's exactly what I used on my trim pieces also....We have something in common. Now that's scary!!!!!
If you do remove the anozidation, it can be easier to maintain by spraying clear coat on it. Eastwood has a diamond coat clear that works great, make sure you get it void of any polish before spraying. Dan
Gene, fyi. I took all the anodizing of my trim pieces. Used easy-off oven spray, just the regular stuff, not lemon scented. Great tip from Seth (littleredtoy). Took a few times, but eventually took it off. I tryed everything from acetone to that "nasty" aircraft stripper and it wont touch it. I'm thinking you could use acetone "moderately" to get that paint off. . just my , Jamie
all I use is acetone! Just put some on a rag or paper towel( more than 1 because like it will rip by the first 30 seconds you use it) WOrks for me. Takes off any paint and stuff. and I dont think it damages the chrome or aluminum. Just dont use it on the seats!!!! or anything else! If you have cheap spray on paint primer on the car like me, if you rub the acetone too hard on the paint it might come off. I dont think it will damage a real paint job.
