chrome interior door trim

    Hey Everybody,

    Looking for some directions on restoring the chrome tim around the wood grain area on my doors. Has or does anyone have a good way of replacing or restoring the chrome. Any directions or ideas would be appreciated. :)

    Go to hobby store and lok for the chrome "film" stuff they use on models. Not sure what it is called. some type of "foil".

    Craig; it is called 'bare metal foil', and comes in chrome, black chrome and brushed, copper and a bunch of other shades.

    Tom; it works quite well, but remember, it is made for models, not to be in a dynamic setting. Just put some clear lacquer or enamel over it, to give it some strength. Should be as good or better than the original stuff. Good luck, and post a pic. I need to do some foiling on my car, around the instrument panel. Later,

    Sam; if you are wanting show quality or restore quality chrome, a regular chromer can do it. We have one here, but he has no web site that I know of. I will check.

    Earl, thanks for the research. I have a few small areas of interior plastic chrome where it has peeled off. No big deal really but I always wondered how you'd repair something like that. Thanks again!

    I was thinking of using that chrome pin stripe tape .. would that be thin enough to work?

    Repairing interior chrome trim

    Thanks, guys. I know about the stuff you are referring to. We use in the wood working industry and its called gold leafing. Teh only differnce this is chrome instead of gold.I had never thought of using that. But it sounds like it will work O.K. as long as you dont get any wrinkles in as you lay it.
    What we do with it is brush a thin coat of lacquer on then apply the foil paper, pressing it out flat and smooth. Let it try then coat it with another coat of lacquer for protection. Before coating it we rub it out to get any excess and loose pieces off before final coating it.
