Okay, I've been working to restore the 72 and have run into an issue with matching the chrome look on one of the door panels. That is the bead that runs around the wood looking vinyl and the black vinyl on the panel insert. This also matches the chrome look, I imagine, that is on the light and wiper knobs and maybe even the trim around the defrost and heater levers and knobs. Any ideas on what to use that is going to match, match best etc?? I'm all ears! Thanks in advance everyone.
I've seen someone use a foil-like material, stretch it, and smooth it with a small brush - but I don't know what it's called.
I used a silver Sharpie to touch up some of the silver on my car. It's not chrome, but who's going to know?? (other than the 15 other Maverick purists in the world)
Ive heard you can by the chrome foil at hobby stores. It comes in different widths on rolls. It has adhesive on the non shiny side. Never bought it or used it... just thought I remembered someone using that. Hope this helps,
the chrome stuff is called Bare Metal Foil...You buy it by the sheet. It workes very well for small stuff that does NOT get alot of use/abuse.I wouldnt use it on buttons or knobs/levers.Should be fine on the door panels though. The other option would be to purchase a roll of "tin tape" used for hvac ducting and the like. Its heavy though and wont conform to small round things very well.It is more durable though. As for the stuff thats on the door panels now...Its heat bonded to the vinyl panel(and its plastic)...Dont try to remove it you will likely ruin a door panel.Good luck!!
You can spray plastic with this stuff and then plate it. http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/silvaspray.html
