Ok, I recently got bucket seats from a junkyard for my maverick, was wondering the best way to clean off grease thats been on them for over 20 years. I sucessfully pulled the back panels off this morning to check the insides out and let them air out, they look incredibly solid for the seats being exposed to the elementsI all these years. I just got a photo resizing program, so I'll post the pics here when I get home from work.

    Thanks for any info.

    Pics of the seats

Here's what they look like! Took forever to get the resizer to work! Next Junk Yard trip the camera won't set at 6.1 mega pixels, 3.0 should be fine. Took 4 times to downsize these pictures!  Oh ,well. I'll post the other car pics in the Junk Yard thread I started awhile ago. These are the picks from the day I was at the trip 2 weeks ago. I have them at home now, and the chrome trim is off of them as are the backs. I'll get more pics of them as I do more work on them.

Alright, here the real question I guess. What can I do for the driver side? Notic it is faded? the seats lookalmost two-tone, but should be the darker red all the way around. I tried goo gone a little on the black grease, very sparingly, and it worked ok so far. But, I don't want to use anything that will harm the material either.

Here's something that works for me. Spray some WD30 on the grease and let it soak for a few minutes. Take a soft bush and scrub the geasey stuff until it comes off. Follow up with a good cleaning product like Tough Stuff and another soft brush or a clean terry cloth rag to remove the WD30 and the grease. Depending on how thick the grease is, you may have to do this more than once.

I post more pics tomorrow of what I've done so far. My next task is getting the rails off, the one on the drivers side is rough. Passenger side is decent and moves smoothly.

One good thing about Mustang buckets is upholstry kits are available. I have a set of those buckets in red and the guy even put the matching back upholstry kit on the Maverick seat/ Dont look to bad.

any idea what year Mustang they are out of? The car was pretty strippe out when I found it. The roof was cut off, and the complete front end an engine were gone also.

65-66 Mustang, I was a little worried it was a convertable, till I read that the roof was cut off :yup: Mustang seat covers are cheap, have a look at National Parts Depot, or The Paddock, they have kits at great prices.

"Power Clean" also works great on vinyl. Spray on, brush, wipe off.

Thanks Alot guys, I'll be trying all the cleaning stuff first that you suggested, on thursday an friday when I have off. I'm working OT today & tomorrow. 8am-11pm both days! urgh... the weather here is supposed to be decent thursday & friday. So i should make so decent progress.

My other question, is how do you seperate the backs from the seats, gently. One seat has a cotter pin on one side the other is just on really tight, it looks like they just slide off?

best part is if you get to a point where you want high backs, you can sell those at a ford car show/swap meet for decent change. so even if you recover them you can probably recoup whatever you invest.the foams look pretty decent.
