**updated vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgmPN1iOsxs Spent like 2 hours just trying to put the alternator on....i don't know how i did it but i managed to put it on wrong 10 times finally i got it going but it didn't start until like the 5th try then it only ran for like 2 seconds..but wow it sounded so loud inside...but i did hear like something was wrong but i'm hoping it fixed itself because it only did it when it ran then the next few tries it didn't do it i'm guessing the carb needs a rebuilt...i check the timing and firing order and it was right..the good part was that i didn't blow the power valve i gotta add protection though heres the vid..my program was on the fritts and i couldn't edit it...and i sound like a lil' kid in the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn6yBGtx7sM *update http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgmPN1iOsxs
It "sounds" like it needs fuel. Can you see fuel going into the car when you pump the accelerator? How long has the car been sitting up? If you have buddy, you can have him crank it while you shoot starting fluid into the carb. You could also pour a few ounces of fuel into the carb then immediately try to crank it. If it runs for a few seconds, you can be pretty sure it's a fuel issue - not necessarily the carb - maybe the fuel pump needs priming. ??? At least that's what I'd try (this coming from someone who once unintentionally burned over 300 acres of prime forest land).
I bought a 75' that had sat in a field for years....did the same thing. Poor gas in the carb and it would run until the gas was gone. Ended up being a clogged filter....it was an easy fix and then the car purred.....as long as you could stand the smell of old gas
After trying what John and Rick said It appears you have the stock ignition system, double check that you have power to the positive side of the coil with the key on. With the exception of the one take, it sounds like it dies as soon as you release the key. Could be getting power with the key in the start position but loosing it when the key is returned to the run position.
i didntt check but i will after i rebuild it. its been sitting for about a year i cranked it it over by hand every week so it wouldnt stick thats what i did...i think it was the fuel pump i didn't prime it Thanks
Ok found out two things that were wrong: I put the belt on the wrong groove I used a battery with 200 less amps than my normal one I fix those two and i primed the fuel pump...checked for 12V on the coil...i'm going to try to start it up again on wednesday, because tomorrow i have to go finish up sKool all day. i also started working on another FC Mavster Dragster™...
Well i tried today started a couple of time, but it just doesn't want to idle. i made a vid and will upload it after i come back from the gas station for some reason my sister always make me fill up the truck...its like shes scarred of the gas station
here are the vids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoVsBIY8Wm0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jW1Fw6sM_w my throttle spring came loose(you can see in the last of part 2) but i dont think thats the problem and i checked timing, wires, ignition. PS i know i have trash all over the place never finished my spring cleaninghope my dads doesn't see these vids.
well i asked my uncle to try to start it , but it did the same thing then it blew a tranny line...he said the problem if that the carb isn't getting enough fuel pressure...i'm going to go buy a regulator with a built in pressure gauge I'm also going to add another cooler i don't like the one in the rad....tranny leaks are the worse the fluid is expensive and auto one use alot...
Run a jumper wire from the positive side of the coil to the positive battery terminal ad start the car. If it stays running you have a problem in the ignition wiring. Don't run it to long like this or you may so some damage.
