I just got the holy crap scared out of me. I was grinding on a piece of my outser wheelhouse that was hanging loose to cut it off, and I ground right through my fuel line with the grinding wheel! Thank God I didn't blow myself up! I didn't realize the fuel line was routed by there or I would not have been cutting in that area. After I calm down just a bit I guess I'm going to go ahead and run that new fuel line that I bought last week.
It's ok John I have two full fire extinguishers in the garage. Now if I can just figure out how to use one the RIGHT way.
Lucky! I did something similar on my '74 Grabber. Was trying to grind a stuck on bolt that holds the seat down loose and went though the fuel line. I'm laying under the car with the dremel going wide open throwing sparks everywhere and gas starts running everywhere. Scared the **** out of me.
Ya know, this brings a thought to my mind. The company I work for is very big on safety, and is constantly promoting safety awareness. I wonder if we should do that here (Stefan?). We certainly don't want any of our fellow Maverick/Comet enthusiastes getting injured or killed while working on their car. How many other car sites promote safety? I don't know of any. I am thinking that we could have flashing banners here, reminding people to be safe, use personal protection equipment (PPE), pay attention, don't get into too big of hurry, use adequate jack stands, be aware of fire hazards, etc. Obviously, no one can force a person to work safely, but I think that perhaps we should at least be promoting safety in this hobby 24/7. Keep it fresh in people's minds. Everytime they log-on to the message forum, they could see a prominate flashing banner with a safety message (public service announcment). We could have several different messages that change periodically each time a person logs-on, just like the pictures that appear in Photo Gallery. 'Just a thought I had anyway...
I like the sound of it. The flashing banner thing might be over done a bit though. Maybe have a sticky thread in technical. We already have a trailor saftey sticky. Good idea......Stefan will chime in I'm sure
