Has anyone done this? 74 Mav 302 top loader 4speed. I have found the headers I have (Flowtech) are not going to work with the zbar clutch rod set up so I am going to have to go to clutch calbe or hydraulic, any sugs, as where to go.
    Besides Hell heh hee:cool:

    Try this

I pulled this post out of the archives ... its worth a try

D.B. Performance Engineering, In Calif makes a conversion for the early Mustang to install late model clutch cable set up. I called them about 3 months ago & ask about using it on a Mav. They said they would send me some info but never did. Their Phone # is 818-571-7126. Maby if enough people called & inquired, they might make a kit for us

I'm working on adapting a stock 5.0L Mustang cable to the Maverick so I can use the stock 5.0L bellhousing. It's a PITA, and I haven't figured out all my problems yet. I'll let everyone know how I end up doing it.

Hooker Comp Headers work with the stock Maverick clutch linkage. I have a 302 with a toploader and these headers and it all fits fine. The cable set up would take major mods because the cable pulls to disengauge where as the manual linkage pushes, among other problems as well. The 5.0 T5 bell housing is designed to use the cable but wont work with a toploader. I want to eventually put a T5 in my 77 so I'm hoping Charlie figures it out.

I'm installing a cable setup. I bought a metal quadrant from "Mustang Steve" he has a web site. So far so good..it involves welding on the clutch pedal but it was the simplest lowest $$$ deal I've seen yet. He has a good set of pics on the web site... check it out

The pedal is in...I've got the car so blown apart, I'm going in 20 directions on differant projects so I haven't plumbed the cable to the bellhousing. www.mustangsteve.com is the site. Nice guy, seems to know his shit. Says he's put a bunch of these in Mustangs. Engineering and quality of the piece is good.

Looks like a good unit. How long did it take you to receive it? I'm thinking of making my own of a similar design, but who knows when/if I'll have the time. How did you route your cable? I'm having a difficult time keeping it far enough away from the header for my likeing.

Hey Mavaholic, remember I have a T5 in mine and I'm using a Lakewood bellhousing for a Toploader and the stock clutch linkage with headers. I just used an adaptor from Califonia Ponycars. The crossmember had to be moved rearward and a new driveshaft made, but that is about it. Years ago I had a Pinto with a 289 and a Toploader 4 spd. Ran great but I was constantly breaking clutch cables. Used to carry spares in the trunk. Hopefully they make the cables stronger nowadays but I'm still wary of them.

hydraulic, hydraulic, hydraulic.............you can rout the line anywhere they make two different mastercylinders (bolts over and under, 67-70 mustang or bolts side by side, 65-66 mustang) and so far no readjusting after 1.5 years and 12000 miles.

They cost more but they are well worth the money we got ours from Johns mustang classic in SanDeigo. The system adapts to mavericks pretty easily (bolt the mastercylinder to the firewall in the stock clutch rod hole, connect the rod to the stock clutch pedal, connect the slave cylinder to the trans, connect it's rod to the release lever, find a place for the reservoir and bleed the system)www.johnsmustangs.com

I was going to go the hydrualic route on my Sprint but the cheapest price I found for the kit is $550 for a toploader set up. The T5 set up was $450. I wonder why it cost $100 more to push than to pull?

    cable conversion into Maverick

I have thought about doing the calble clutch in my 76 Mav.
The problem I ran into though is that there is not enough room to attach the quadrant to the clutch pedal. The Mustang pictures don't apply since the ponys have more clearance under the dash.
