I know that this is a maverick forum, but I figured all the help and knoweledge I have gotten with my maverick would help here,
I am using a ford racing clutch(king cobra clutch) along with an adjustable quadrant and cable. (in my 86 stang gt) In the time I have owned my 86 gt, I must say, that I am not too impressed with the clutch, and I have gone through 2 of them. Granted, I only have 2.73's in an almost stock motor, but the only way I can chirp second is almost a full throttle shift with the gas still halfway down, is that right?
Today I tried to practice a practice launch at the stop, all by myself. I brought the rpm's to about 2500 and let go, naturally as you are letting the clutch go, the rpm's drop, so I nailed the gas a little more...to maintain 2500 rpm's or so. As soon as I did that, the response was the clutch aggressively slipping, and I just let completely off the clutch altogether to stop the slipping.Whew!! Smell that clutch burn!! I have noticed though, that it has never grabbed like I want. Am I doing something wrong? Not adjusted right? thought I went over that a million times. The clutch and tranny both have less than 15k miles on them. Has anyone else had this problem with this clutch. Maybe I just can't drive?(or launch right?) thanks for any and all help

Did you have the flywheel re-surfaced when you installed the clutch ? If not, that could contribute to premature wear of the disc.

ya, this time around I did resurface the flywheel. I think that maybe my technique could be the culprit. How do you guys best launch --maximizing rpm's with minimal wheel spin, I might be clutching it for too long.

The way you discribe your application of the clutch, you are burning it way more than you should. You have to get the Rpm up over 3000 and a quick application. Then the hi gear ratio is not helping. You need something over 3.55 for gear. Clutch works just like a brakes, the hotter you allow them to get the less effective they get. The lower gear will actually be easier on the clutch and its life.

thanks guys, I am going to bring out the car this weekend and practice some launches, it seems that the prob is most certainly user error. B4 when I race, I never brought the rpms up at the signal, I got real good, but now I would like to perfect on this.
