I'm in the process of building a 4 link rear setup using coil over shocks and am wondering if someone could tell me a safe spring rate to choose? It will be street only.

    Thanks :)

Are you cutting out the floor and tubbing the car? If you are then 120 to 150 lbs springs should be ok I have 130lbs spring in my car that is drag only But if I were to make a street car again I would go with the 150 lbs springs for a better ride. If you are not cutting the rear floor out the springs are going to be 220 or high I would guess

I'm wasn't planning to cut the floor out.

How would that affect spring rate? How high the springs are mounted on the rear maybe? I wanted to mount them low behind the rear just behind the 4 link mounts. That way they should fit to a crossmember just under the floor board.

Chassis Engineering also sells a set of top and bottom spring mounts that allow you to use a small diameter coil over spring but use a regular heavy duty shock mounted through the center. It would save a ton of money over coil over shocks, if they work. Any thoughts?

Like I said - not drag racing - just for the street.

Good link - I talked to AFCO today and their suggestion is to go with 150 or 175 pound rear springs for the street. Their 5 inch stroke non-coil over shock (#1564) with 12 inch coil over spring, using Chassis Engineering's kit may fit without cutting the floor out. Also their rule of thumb on spring/shock sizes is 5 inch shock/12 inch spring - 7 inch shock/12 or 14 inch spring.
