Im building a 71 GT comet factory restoration. Im keeping every nut, bolt, and clamp down to the original so its the same as rolling off the assembly line. My question is that the marty report shows my car as being white and personally I just dont like white. I want to change the color to the same year but the lime green. The car was taken down to metal so there are no traces of white anywhere, it will be a proper color change even under the undercoating and carpet. Will this hurt the value of car? As a factory restoration are color changes allowed and do people still consider the car as a factory matching original car?

I would say no they will not consider it a matching original car if you change the color thats the number one thing that matters in matching numbers.

It will not be as original anymore (obviously) but it will in no way hurt the value either (IMHO) - since white is quite "boring" to most folks, a nice bright period correct color like the lime green may actually make it worth more ...... :yahoo:

Do whatever makes you happy ...... I like the lime choice!

If you are trying to build a factory correct concourse quality 500 point car, that you intend to show and place with...Dont change the body color. If you are building the car to please yourself and dont care what anybody thinks about your color change.By all means paint it whatever color you like.In most cases, where you show the car and the fact that its color isnt original wont matter. The pebble beach crowd will frown, the rest wil just appreciate a well done car.As stated before...value will not be hurt by a color change...these cars arent that valuable yet.Have fun!!!

Exactly. IF you dont like the white then dont paint it white. Paint it whatever color you want it to be. Thats the whole point to building these cars. We certainly dont do it to get rich.:)
I can see the color issue thing if it was a numbers matching Shelby or HEMI Cuda etc. Dont think our cars will bring 6 figures unless you gold plate it and diamond stud it. :)

gold plate and diamond stud? man would that be ugly..... if it became a big enough issue you could always grind it down and paint it white again....

We're dealing with Mavericks & Comets, not Boss 429 Mustangs, paint it what ever you want.

It is your car. Do with it as you wish. If you are trying to keep it original, then paint it the original color. Personally, I prefer white over slime frost green, especially in a Comet GT.

    Your call.

Go for the lime green! I wish my Grabber was Grabber Lime from the factory. I like the Bright Red enough so I kept the original color scheme ... but if it was white I would have definitely went with Grabber LIme myself ....
