i was wondering if anyone has tried applying grabber hood inserts to a comet hood and does anyone have pics or drawings if possible. and does anyone share this interest? dont get me wrong i like the gt hood but im looking for somthing a little different.
I know Terry and Tony Hahn's friend Smerk had talked about doing this but I dont know if he has ever started on it.
I thought about it years ago and have both a comet and grabber hood that are crappy enough to give it a try. The problem is the raised portion of the comet hood is wide in the back and gets narrower near the front. It also stays raised through the transition from top to front and blends into the bump-out, where as the grabber hood is almost flat across the transition. About the only way I could see making it work is mount the scoops at an angle to follow the comet lines. You would have to recurve the drop from the raised section to the flat part of the hood almost the entire length of the line to match the grabber hood. Maybe some day I will try it but I doubt it will be any time soon.
I don't get on here much, but I'm in the process of trying that myself.I'm using similar scoops off a 96 stang hood.didn't want to cut up a grabber.they are alittle smaller, but from mock up I think they look good.I'll post some pics when I can.
Seems like the simpler way to do this would be to find a grabber hood with a rusted front lip, which you can get for relatively cheap. Then use the grabber hood as your base by cutting off the front and welding on the nose section of the Comet hood. I don't have a comet hood for reference but it seems like doing it this way would avoid cutting into the "creases" all together.
I've thought about doing what the new mustangs are doing by doing the very wide, thin forward facing cowl. Picture below...
I am in the process of looking for a grabber hood so I can fab them together. I posted about it a little while ago it had majority positive reviews. Id like to make fiberglass versions one day when my car was done! -Andrew
