What do you guys think about putting a Comet GT strip on my Mav without the Comet GT lettering. Like the look of the stripe how it follows the body lines. 73 I think. NOt the straight stripe on the other years.

My Comet has a Maverick stripe; which makes it kinda unique. OK... I guess you're *allowed* to put Comet stripes on a Maverick.... :p

But I think the lettering is a relief that's cut out of the decal so you'll have to order something custom. Just remember that the stripes follow body contours and none of them are actually dead straight.

I used to work at a sign shop and installing those big long decals can be kinda tricky.

Wont be me putting them on. Our body shop guys are really good with decals using the slide gel. Its gives lots of time to line up stripes. Have to get someone local to make them without the lettering if I go this route.

Thats what I plan to do If I ever paint Our Comet also. I think the Comet stripes would look great on a Maverick.

NO WAY!! The car was finally painted after a year of work. Its done and I am officially retired from the body work business. Way too much work for me. Those guys are nuts. :yup:
Its done in urethane. Our painter was going to put on urethane and if it needed it sand it out and end up with clearing over the urethane. Turns out after 2 coats of urethane it looked pretty damn good so he shot a third coat on it and that was that. Have to fix up a couple of little runs and one hanger in the Spring and thats it.
I dont ever want to sand another car as long as I live. I did enjoy how much I learned from our guys in the body shop but it gets kind of pain staking after months of it. I felt like I just kept sanding the same thing over and over. Thats probably because I was. :hmmm:
It is really nice to see what you accomplished though. :yahoo:

The clincher on sticking with the urethane was that we switched over to the water based products before mine was ready for paint. We werent about to gamble on the water base on my car. Save that for the insurance jobs.

My Comet was repainted in the 80s and they had to re-create the stripes from eyeing it I guess. They follow the bodyline more than the year model actually did. I do wish they were under the clearcoat though. There are pics on the website in my sig.

Look at this thread on his stripe

    http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=2880&highlight=maverick+stripe

They figured it was either a Dealer option/aftermarket or shortly discontinued due to the similarity to the comet GT stripes, but it was intended for a maverick either way. Check out post 27 he has some really good pictures of his car with that stripe.
