I picked up these really nice Comet Door Panels at the Round-Up (Thanks Craig!). Unfortunately they are for my 74 Maverick. I took a hi-res printout of the Maverick Emblem, put it in the bezel and then filled it with clear Acrylic Enamel Finger Nail Polish. Just gotta let it harden now and it should be permanent ...

The glasses are over the emblems to keep any dust particles out of the nail polish while it dries to keep it nice and smooth ...

Yup ... already have the tan interior so the only work I needed to do was to convert the emblems ... Not sure about bringing two ... we'll see ... :)

Dan, where did you get the high-res image? I need to do that to a couple of emblems on the door panels you saw at my house a couple of weeks ago.

I figured this post might catch your attention ... I can help you out with the emblems but you have to supply the nail polish ..

Well ... this morning did not show good results. All the nail polish seeped under the printout and never dried. Worse than that ... the fumes must have got trapped under the glass and now I have a circular wrinkled area around the emblem  . Looks like the fumes caused the vinyl to stretch. I am sitting them out in the sun today to see if they smooth out.

I did have a set of used Maverick emblems torn from another set of panels. I put the emblem over a gas burner on my stove for about 20 seconds and I was able to remove the emblems from the base using a safety pin as a tool while the glue was hot. I'll end up using these instead of the prints and nail polish.

So, I guess this means I can call my wife (I'm at the office) and cancel my order for clear acrylic nail polish.

Bummer. I wonder if it would work better to glue the images down first so nothing can get behind them? Then maybe try some high build epoxy like people use on bars or those cypress tables?

I can tell you glue may not work either. I had left the original Comet inserts behind the Maverick ones I made. The nail polish also got behind them and the factory adhesive and I was able to lift them right out ... gonna put them up for sale on the board when I get a picture ... they are in pretty nice condition ...

Perhaps doing thin layers of nail polish instead of just a big pool of it like I did may work.

    Maybe a solution

Dan, Hobby Lobby makes a clear liquid that hardends into a plastic, florists use it when they put artificial flowers in a clear vase to secure them to the bottom, its in the floral section. You can pour it as thick as you want it and it will dry hard and its self leveling.
