I'm going to start modifying the holes on my Mav tail panel to fit a pair of comet tail lights in.

If someone has a Comet with the lights out...

can you measure the distance from top and bottom of the panel to the light pod holes and measure across so I can have an idea of where to square them up and fab my openings.

I could mark up both sides my own way but would like the correct spacing of a comet.

How far are you away from David? The last time I was there, he still had the Green GT body with a tail panel on it.

If you're up to the challenge, the rear panel could be either swapped out so that you don't have the Maverick center bump out that the Comet doesn't have or you could just cut out the light mounting area and fit the piece(s) to your existing tail panel.

    Just giving you another option,
    -Scott H.

I was there last weekend. Thats where I picked up the tail-lights, he had already parted and got rid of his comet bodies :(

I've read on the site and everybody mentions swapping the entire tail panels (thats un-needed work IMO, unless you dont want the hump), but I've studied both sets of lights and even with the hump all I need to do is widen and fill in some sections of the mav panel and its a flush fit.

I can get the measurements tomorrow. So you just want the centers of the holes? Or perimeter measurements also? What about the holes for the mounting bolts?

    ok thanks

Yea, I'm mainly wanting the distance from the sides of the panel to the outer slots and top/bottom of the panel to the slots.

I've got your measurements on a piece of paper. I will "translate" them this evening and post them up for you. If I missed something, I can head back to the shop this week and fine tune a measurement.

Don't hold me to it, but as I remember the Comet light bezels are taller than the bump out on the Maverick tail panel causing them to hang over the top and bottom. Somewhere in my memory I tried this once and didn't like how it looked. Just sayin...

    Sam,

You are correct, the Comet tail panels are different than Mav tail panels.

mercgt, ok thanks man :tiphat:, no rush.

Sam M, I prefer the comet tails over the stock tails and think it will set-off the look I'm going for with my 2 door mav, & I'll play around with them until they look fitting with the mavs tail panel hump

Here are the measurements. I also have the measurements for the top 3 mounting holes. If you need them, I can add them to the drawing. I included the tape measure so you can see where I measured on the curved side. The top is pretty flat, so the points are easier to reference. Hope this helps! (y)
