I'm thinking about painting the light frames black (silk matte) instead of this silver color.

    What do you think?

Anybody know the colorcode for the black trim paint used on the comets?

Me too. I like the contrast and if you really want to make a change, try body color first. You can always go black (or back to silver) if you don't like it.

Nice bumper swap, did you do it?

Your taillight panel appears to be black. The taillight housing rings were
only matte or low gloss black on the GT's. All other models came with body color
or contrasting colors. Ex. if you had a 2 tone light blue and dark blue lower body
LDO car, the taillight panel could have been dark blue along with the same color
    for the housings.
I have seen a few-very few-GT's with argent(low gloss silver) taillight panels and
    housings.

If you paint the housing black they probably would look better matching your taillight
panel and I can't tell if it is gloss or flat/semi-flat.

I don't have the factory code and I am sure there is more than one that works anyway as much flat black as Ford/Mercury used from about '68 to '75.
I had mine cleared in gloss due to many years of trying to renew the faded chalky
semi-flat colors. If you get wax on it, it makes it look terrible.
Any semi-flat or low gloss paint will work. I have heard some body shop guys call
the clear sprayed over black '40% gloss'.

Check my website under my username to see pics of GT's with black panels and housings.

Post more pics, I would like to see closeups of your lower rear valence panel. It appears to be notched for exhausts. Is that a Comet/Maverick piece that was modified or a Mustang/Cougar piece made to fit?

Yes they stand out and I noticed that and liked it when I first saw the car, but now I'm not sure I wether I like it or not. :hmmm:

Fortunately I have another set of lights, so I can experiment. Those lights have a brownish color and that is definitely not working, so the first step will be painting them black.

I think the frames are black on the Comet GT can anybody confirm that?

Nice Comet you have there. I like the black rear panel, so I will try this.

I'm not sure about the rear valence panel it might be handmade or modified, I will ask the guy who restored the car when I meet him.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post here.

Yes, and the bumpers no it was like this when I bought it. The bumpers are supposed to be from a 72 Comet. And I agree the 74 "federal bumpers" look horrible on this body.

Your previous owner left the '74-'77 tail panel trim installed. It is much different
than the earlier trim that attached to the quarter pieces and decklid.

Give us some more pics. I would like to see more of the rear valence with exhaust
notches. Many here have tried that and get various results. That one looks nicely
done in the 1 pic provided. That is why I wondered if it was a Mustang or Cougar piece made to fit the car.

Here are the pictures of the rear valence I promised. It seems to me that a previous owner just cut the valence and bent the edges looks ok, but could have been done better...

Im also planning to post some pictures of the car in my gallery tonight. It has been raining or snowing here since november I will take better pictures when it gets dry and I can take the Comet for a spin :bananaman

Well...seeing how you have painted your Comet almost the same color as mine. I'll let you in on a little secret. I painted the whole rearend the color of the car, with the tailight bezels painted gloss black metallic. They match the top, Mach 1 spoiler, & GT hood stripe...I think it looks awesome.

It does look as if the previous owner modified the original valance.
I will look for more pics in the gallery. Have you joined the MCCI yet?

This may sound like a stupid question, but what is the MCCI?

    My guess is:
    Maverick Comet something...:)
