Okay, got the toploader out today and set it next to the TREMEC, measuring from the front edge of the bell housing on both, the toploader came out to 20 inches on center of the crossmember bolts, the TREMEC comes out at 23 inches on center, all I can find on reading about the swap says 1 1/2 inches is all the mounting points need to be moved back, why then am I getting 3 inches? I do have the original bell housing on the TREMEC and a Lakewood scatter shield on the toploader, of course the Lakewood bell will not fit the TREMEC, should I have the crossmember made for moving the mounting points back 3 inches or stick with the 1 1/2 inches I have read about? OR just wait untill I install the engine and tranny combination then get under there and measure?
i wonder if your tremic is for a sn95 mustang. they have a longer input shaft. i think it was a little over 1 inch longer so that would be close to the measurements your getting.
The TREMEC bell housing is 7 inches long, the Lakewood bell is 6 inches, the overall length of the toploader is 30 inches, the TREMEC overall is 31 1/2 inches as measured from the front edge of the bell housings.
The trans is 1 1/2" longer and the bell is 1" longer which should give you 2 1/2" total. The Toploader usually sits at the rear of the slots in the crossmember. If your measuring from the center of the slot you will be right at 3".
