I am looking at buying a Maverick, and the owner told me that he has put the factory Grabber Mag rims on the car. Can anyone confirm that this is what he says it is?

also would a stock manual 3 speed trans that was hooked up to an inline six work on a 302 V8?

    thanks
    Glen

Hey Glen! what year of Grabber? My brothers inlaws bought a new 75 grabber and it had the wheels like you have pictured. It was either those or the aluminum slots. Looks right to me.

The same trans was used for I6's and V8's.

I cant post the one picture I have untill Monday. But he said it has a brand new engine. It's a 71 Grabber and has a solid body except for a small amount of rust in the front quarters. He is asking 3500 but would take 3000 which taps me totally out :)

anyway is not a sure thing, but he is mailing me detailed pictures, and when I get them I can scan and post them.

The wheels pictured are the styled steel wheels offered on the Grabbers and Stallion. They were optional on the base model. The aluminum slotted wheels with center caps were optional as well. You were given corect info.

The 3 speed will, in fact, bolt right up with a 302 bellhousing.

here is the one photo I have

Cant tell much by this one

Here are the facts I know about the car:

It stated out as a lime green 6 cyl Grabber, now it boasts a "new" 302 with an automatic. He also converted the spindles and ther rear with 5 lug gear, and added the rims shown. It was a stick because the clutch pedal is still in the car but not hooked up, it also has the hole in the trans mount for the 3 speed (which he has and will provide). It has been repainted grey (why, I dont know) and had the Grabber stripes painted back in. He said there was a small amount of rust in the front quarter panels, right behind the front wheel, but the rest of the car is solid.

    More pictures to come...

Is it a hobby or a fix for a mid-life crisis? LOL

I will preface this remark by saying: "Yes, I do have a Maverick for sale that I wish Glen would buy." :D

Having said that......$3500...or even $3000 seems a little high for a Maverick that has to be repainted. Just depends on how nice everything else is on the car. The brand new V-8 motor is definitly a plus.

I think its worth the money. Unless you can do your own rust repair, any car, if its body is rust free or very close to it, is worth between $1500 to $2500 in my book. It would take you more than $3000 to take a decent $500 6 cyl car, and put it in that kind of shape with a v8. I kinda like that color combination too.

    Hey Craig!

I saw your old '70 Grabber was for sale in the newsletter.
    Has he sold it yet?

get out your magnet... check EVERYWHERE for bondo. also, dump a couple gallons of water down the vent in front of the windshield to see if the cowl vent is rotted. look real close at every square inch of the underside of the car for rust or well hidden rust. best of luck :)
