I was just wondering... my cowl vent leaks and I know that's where fresh air gets inside the car. I was just thinking if you sealed that off where the slits are isn't there a vent duct that brings the fresh air in that could be re-routed to a different location? just a thought because I'd really like to just seal that off for good. any thoughts?

Mine leaks too. everytime I wash the car or it rains really hard Im left with a puddle on the floor. I wish I could fix it but I've heard that it is a huge job to remove that cowl. same problems on mustangs too. let me know what you find out if you try to fix it.

one more thing I forgot to mention... my car was set up for factory air conditioning and I read in the faq that if it had air conditioning then there isn't a driverside cowl vent. the air conditioning system was removed by the previous owner but it did origionally have it. the only side mine leaks on though is the drivers side. the passenger side is ok. so I'm not really sure whats going on if my fix posted above is even possible. any ideas?

Hey Nick, you can fill in the cowl vent openings, but then you have to make sure it doesn't leak around the windshield wiper openings. Here is a picture Mavaholic posted a while back in another post showing a filled in cowl. It looks pretty good. As long as you don't need the outside air, you should be fine. As you said, you can always find another way to get in the air. Try to treat as much of the rust as you can before you seal it up. Hope this helps.

What did he fill it with? it looks cool. I definatly dont need the fresh air since I'm always driving with the windows down.

He just cut out the grill and filled it in with sheet metal. It looks great and will keep out alot of water but, it will be real hard to seal the windshield wiper posts and around the windshield, to keep it all out. Your treating the symptom rather than the problem.

Do you always talk about yourself in third the third person:) I like the way it looks. knowing me I'll probably put off fixing it and keep buying unnessary dress up items instead.

AdamMav - If you read the original thread, you'll see that he's not referring to himself in the third person; it's not his car.

No harm no foul - I just can't resist the opportunity to correct someone when I get the chance, 'cause being a married guy, I don't get that opportunity very often, if ya know what I mean. :)

that is pretty neat, but it is better to fix it properly. Surprisingly its not that difficult to remove the cowl, it was much easier then I had expected, but it is a little labor intensive. i have mine off just haven't been able to find a donor cowl that i could get.. id post another pic, but its to scary and theres young people veiwing this board... :D

fenders, windshield and dash, and you will need to get a spot weld cutter, with a little practice there a breeze to use... im sure others can elaborate some.. you'll defiantly want to have some welding experience (i have very little, but im determined to do it) and be mechanically inclined as well lol
