I have read previous articles on repairing rusted cowl vents. I have a different problem. While my Maverick was in storage, it seems a family of mice thought my driver side cowl vent would be a good place to build their nest. I looked through the vent on the top and the passenger looked ok. The driver side is filled up with batting and insulation from the seats along with some leaves. I didn't want to open the flapper to keep all the junk from falling out on my head while I looked at it with a flashlight. Is there anyway to get at the top of the cowl vents to remove the debris? Or does it have to all come out from inside the car with maybe a coathanger and a very powerful air hose? Also if I have debris built up inside one of my fenders does it have to come off to clean it out where the rust is forming?
I would remove the necessary parts to get a better picture.......you may discover more than meets the eye. Good Luck!
Unfortunately there is no access. You could just bore a small diameter hole in the front, just under the hood line where you could stick a long air hose nozzle into and blow the stuff out. Then just either weld the hole up or put a rubber plug in it.
just reach up in the vent...have cleaned a few this way. take the fender loose at the bottom, it will come out enough to clean. don't force it . ... ...
