honestly, i think my MSD box is going bad. he lately when i start my car it'll make about 2-3 revolutions just fine and then it just starts to crank really really slow as if the timing was off real bad..... then finally it'll pick back up and fire up. all of my wires are hooked up correctly and it has just started this here recently. has anyone else had this problem and/or know of a solution??? any help is always appreciated :)

Not the MSD box--- check battery, starter, starter solenoid and of course ground any of them may have an intermediate problem.

I know you will find it sooner or later

Sounds like a weak starter Dave...cranks till it gets some heat in it from the current its pulling then slowes down...then bang catches and fires. In my experience MSD boxes go...they just quit working...no warning just dead.Good luck with it...

thanks guys. i forgot to mention that i replaced the starter last week with no effect. the starter is a late model high torque unit with solenoid on top of it, all cables are new, optima battery is good, alternator charges at 14.4 & 130amp, new ground cable from battery to engine..... i mean, everything is new lol... that's why i thought it may be the MSD or something

put a volt meter on the battery and see how far it drops when cranking.

put the volt meter on the stater motors hot post while cranking. then the battery. that will show you where the voltage loss is if there is one. does it crank strong if you unplug the msd or disable the ignition system?

I had the same problem once. After 2 months I was finally able to track it down to the pickup trigger going bad in the distributor.

Long time ago I went on a vacation. Before leaving I thought I would be clever and took the msd wires going to coil and swapped them backwards in case someone tried to steal the car. Well two things happend. When I got back I forgot I did that, second they still run hooked up backwards. It ran that way for about two weeks until it burned itself up.
