I just finished installing a set of Crites headers on my 71 mav. They give you
template to remove the center rib of both shock towers, but these headers
fit in with no mods. The only thing I had to do is install a 90 degree oil filter
adapter and dent #5 tube slightly. I plan on reworking that tube during this winter before I get them ceramic coated.

So far this is the best 1-3/4 header I see out there. They are easier to install
than my 1-5/8 hooker headers! Also if the shock tower mod was done, I could
see how they would work with a 351w based engine. These headers also fit better around my trans shield than the hookers.

Crites built my headers with the wide bolt pattern to fit my AFR heads at no
extra charge. This was the main reason why I didn't go with The hooker 6208's, those headers are crimped down too far at the flange.

I will post pics as soon as I can, I still need to get the exhaust done( 3inch,
    Dr Gas x-pipe,Dynatech mufflers) .

Very excited to see what my new combination will run.

    Any guesses on E.T.

    Excellent news!

Instead of going back through all the posts to find it, how can one go about getting these headers and how much are they?

Also, what is diameter of the collectors?

    re: Guess on E.T.?
    "Very Quick!"

You can reach Crites at critesrestoration.com or call 740-983-4777
headers have individual 1-3/4 tubes going into a 3-1/2 collector

well i do agree with you the hookers 6208 are kinda pinched at the flange but thats no big concern with me...im NOT pushing 500 hp so its not a big deal....now the question do they fit a windsor??

The #5 tube was actually hitting the bolt of the oil adapter, which makes me
think these headers may fit a 351w block better

    More good header news!

***I ordered these headers from Crites and my mechanic installed them yesterday and I saw them today. They fit perfectly on my 408 stroker in my 1971 Comet gt. What you do need to do is to modify/cut the shock towers and that's all there is to it. There are 1 3/4 with 3 inch collectors and the part number is CR-24.

***When I talked to the gal and ordered them I said if these work I might be able to give you some more business. The price is 329 and it was $37 bucks for shipping. The headers are not all one piece but come in pieces just in case you have to do some modifying. I did not get them coated ( I think she said you could for an added expense but I can't remember)? My mechanic is old school and said he's going to wrap them. Btw, does anybody else around here wrap their headers?

***Btw, these headers are made for a 351W swap into our engine compartments. If you go to their site I don't think you will see them listed so it's best to call to see what they have in stock. She said this is a new item for our cars. www.critesrestoration.com 740-983-4777

***Something else for you information I did was ordered two fiberglass fenders and one fiberglass racing hood with pins from glasstek. All three of these items fit like a glove and I am pleased with them. Boy, this car restoration business sure takes a lot of time and of course money. Oh well, like they say you pay to play.

It is not recommended for street use.
    Also voids header warranty.
The problem is that the wrap holds any moisture it encounters against the header. Causing rapid rust/rot.

    Now...
You live in Vegas according to your avitar profile.
Being such a dry climate may make all the difference in the world.
You know in your gut if you can get away with it or not.
Humidity, rain, puddles... all that stuff the rest of the world deals with, will not allow us to wrap our headers.

    Good luck
    Good info too
    Dave

The main problem with wrapping headers (besides keeping moisture in) is that it keeps to much of the heat inside and, over time, burns the carbon out of the steel. It makes the steel weak and it will eventually break or develop holes in the tube. Great for a race car that sees low miles. Absolutley not reccomended for street use and will void the warranty.

Wow great news! And thanks for the part #...that will help out when I call! What mod did you do to the towers? Were they necessary for header cleaance or just for ease of plug changes? I would absolutly love to see some pics showing how they fit and any mods that were done....please please :yippee:

    Yea, it's hot alright!

***I understand what your saying and I still have the option to coat them. What type of coating do you guys recommend? Btw, this is a new engine and has never run yet. Do I run it for awhile and then add the coating after how long? Thanks!

    I used the method recommended..

***I used the method recommended by the more knowlegeable boys around here. And I should add this addendum to this whole process. The normal oil filter will not fit because there is no room for it. I plan on using an adapter and running two lines with two filters in the engine compartment.

***I took pictures but the car was up in the air on a hoist and another car was under the hoist. It would have been a hassel to move everything around at this time. Be patient and when the time comes I will take pics looking down into the engine compartment.
