    :hmmm:

So ive come to realize something today about ford transmissions, especially the 1970 c4 transmissions, and what that revelation is would be that i hate the damn things:dance:.

I have been working on this thing for the past 2 weeks with just one thing after another going wrong with it. It all started with me buying the Newly rebuilt transmission to replace my now fried and utterly usless one. So i score the net looking for a replacement and lucky me i found a rebuilt tranny for 150 bucks!!!.....BIG FREAKIN MISTAKE!!!!:naughty:

So after getting this thing I am pretty satisfied with my perchase, new clutch, new gears, everything! But thats when i relize the first issue......it has a 302 bellhousing when i have a tiiiiiiinnnnnny lil 170-200 bellhousing(y).

No biggy i swap on my old bellhousing after cleaning the thing up and BAM! Time to put it back in and hook everything up.....WRONG:bowdown:

Good ol FORD decided to change splines on us in 1970.....i...did not know this yet....

So my neighbor comes over and has me convinced he knows the world about engines( while i look over and he owns a crappy soundin HONDA) so he helps me put this thing on....well obviously its not goin on all the way because the t. converter wont engadge fully....does that stop him from using my air powered crank wrench on the thing....NOPE! He starts cranking and BOOM there goes my bellhousing with a crack from hell down the side of the thing....now if any of you out there have ever tried finding a damn 170-200 bellhousing its damn near impossible!

Thanks goes to paul tho for just handing me a replacement bellhousing (looking forward to seeing your mustang done paul) so i drive 140 miles back home with this thing just itching to get back to work on my maverick because this thing is my DAILY driver.

So i finally get back from seattle with this thing...put it on and then i go to put my t. converter on properly this time like paul had shown me....thats when i relize that i need a new torque converter.....sound simple but WRONG AGAIN!

So i walk to the local parts store and have them order me a new t. converter with the starter teeth on it. Unfortunatley it ment ide bhe out of a car for another week:(.

So today my new B&M t. converter arrives:clap:.
I walk my ass home carrying this thing and when i get home and open it up....THERE ARE NO GOD DAMN TEETH ON THE THING:bowdown:.

So...after calming down for a bit i decide that im going to keep this t. converter and just make it to where ill just change the flexplate to have teeth on it, sounds like a good idea so if my teeth ever go bad im only out of a 20 dollar part instead of a 220 dollar part. So i start walking to Schucks to order this thing and guess what....Its 2 peices tht have to be taken to a chop and put together with a torch:hmmm:....when will it ever stop with the spending....the parts will be here in 2 days and i hope hope hope that this will be the last part of this pain in the ass puzzle.

You all have been a great help with this project since this is the first time ive ever done any transmission work and i wouldn have gotten this far without you all. Ill keep you updated on how it goes and hopefully the mav will be on the road again in a couple days.

    Thanks again,
    Chris

Hopefully you wont have anymore problems...but if you paid for a torque converter with teeth, you should get one.

The ring gear should fit on the torque converter - it is not welded just heated and shrunk in place. You may have a problem with set back (the distance from the starter gear to the flywheel if you use a flexplate with the gear instead of the gear on the torque converter..... sorry to mention this - and I may be all wet.
    Good luck with the project!
