My original Dash Pad was not treated well by years of UV rays and had turned a color that I can't really describe. I picked up a dash cap from Ron and painted it with Camel SEM .... I am not glueing it on since the original pad has no cracks just discolored ....

yeah ... I was thinking the same thing about should have gotten 2 ... Since car shows are typically on sunny days the uncracked dash in my Grabber gets beaten on by the sun at every show. These caps are really indistinquishable from the original unless somebody tells you. I could have used another to save the black dash on my Grabber from, I would guess, inevitable cracking.

so, you guys dont glue the dash caps on unless there is cracking in the original?

My original dashboard was cracked, so I put a cap on and glued it around the entire inside lip, clamped it for a day, and then re-installed it. A couple months down the road, the cap cracked, in the same place the original did. I figured it was due to poor quality in the cap. Im not looking forward to replacing it again and have it crack, and Im thinking my only option is to pay $$$ for those replacement repo dashboards.

    Any opinions?

The wife walked in just as I pulled this picture up and she said "ooooh...that looks GOOD!!!"

I am jealous...she never says that about me.

I had a cap on my grabber and didn't care for the fit. I glued it down with the stuff that it came with and it came loose. The heat over time causes the cap to warp and separate from the original pad. I took off the cap, bought a crack free pad, dyed it, and it looks and fits great. I will have an original pad restored before I buy another cap. It is a big difference in $$$$$$$$ and time to install but I couldn't sleep at night knowing my cap didn't fit right.

I've used 2 of the caps and didn't glue either of them down. Like Dan said, if you didn't know they weren't original, you'd never know it. One has been on 6 years, the other 3 years. No problems yet.

I have four of the caps, three black and one blue, they fit great, I did not have to glue them down, I think there are well worth the money, looks good to me.

Perhaps NOT gluing them down is the key ... it lets them expand and contract without twisting or cracking. The only experience I have with them is the one I put in my 1984 Mustang many years ago ... I had the car for 4 years and never had a problem with it ... don't recall if I glued it down or not ...

Found my black dash cap in the boneyard, paid 4 bux for it :bananaman , also found a black dash mat, both in great shape. Wasnt glued, so I didnt, and it still looks great, no warpage and my car lives outside.

    Btw... yours looks terrific.

$4 is a deal for sure. Realistically ... they shouldn't cost more than $20 tops ... the markup on these things must be incredible!
