    Hi everyone,

So I was told that this 302 motor I have in my 74 Mav is not the original (Its still probably around the same decade when it comes to age though). I am thinking this motor actually came out of a truck or something because the oil pan is so huge it sits directly flush against the cross member. The drain plug is barely accessible because of that. So I guess I need to put a shallower oil pan in it and wanted to see if anyone could direct me in the right direction as to where to get this part that will fit better?

Also, I am having trouble getting the serial number/dating the engine. I read that getting to the serial number involves removing the starter motor, but is that true and is there any other way I could tell how old it is?

    Thank you.

Yup..gotta remove the starter to access the Block Casting number, just post the number in this thread and one of us can tell you what you got, I just went through this. For an oil pan, Canton makes some good ones.:)

Okay, I didn't think it was normal for the oil pan to be sitting like that. Also, as soon as I can get to the number I will definitely post it. Thank you for your help. :)
