My new Carter RBS showed up today ... there was no way it would work on my engine because the throttle linkage connection was way to low. It seems like it would have worked with mechanical linkage like the Mustangs had but no way with a cable. Did 70 Mavs ever come with mechanical throttle linkage or were all of them a cable? If they were all a cable I'm not sure what this carb is that Advance Auto is listing for a 1970 Maverick. I found another one with the connection in the correct place so they ordered me that one and I returned the one I received. Also ... they list different carbs depending if the car was manual tranny, Automatic tranny, with A/C and without A/C. Why would any of these options make a difference in the carb?
I seem to recall my 1970 Maverick Grabber had mechanical linkage. Some type of apperatus that was bolted to the head.
My 69.5 had a cable connected to a elbow type linkage, what type carb depended on what size engine, Motorcrafts were installed on 170s and some 200s, Carter YF the most popular and what I had, were on the 200s and the Carter RBS (round bowl on front) were installed on the 250s and there were different CFMs for the Carter YF and RBS you can change the horn in the center of them by taking the top off and replacing it with a larger one.
that is the setup i had on my '71 6cyl. give me a call and i will check johnsons yard for the linkage you need..frank...
The throttle linkage was all cable but a machanical linkage went from the carb to the kick down rod for automatics.
Yes ... I have mechanical linkage to my kickdown rod. Here is the linkage on the one they sent me - not way a cable would pull it back and open the throttle ... Here is the linkage I need ... Both carbs are listed under 1970 Maverick ...
The throttle cable came out of the firewall and went to the back of the motor and attached to the mechancal linkage. Mine was as MiteeMaverick described.
