Hi Folks! This ones probably been answered a hundred times but here goes. When I give my 302 a whipping down the road (70-80) I pop the hood open and low and behold, There's oil on the alternater and stuff. It's seems to be coming out the top of the dip stick. Does that mean the engine is building up pressure? What gives? Any help would be appreciated.
PCV valve is stuck or missing the whole system. PCV valve should be stuck into one valve cover with a hose connecting it to the base of the carb or intake. If it's present, remove it and holding one finger over the bottom hole, pour a bit of gas in it, shake well, empty then repeat several times till the gas comes out clean. Then put it back in place then run the engine and see if you get the same results as before. PCV system relieves the excess crankcase pressure from piston blowby and recycles and burns it in the engine.
I had a 73 mach1 do that when it had three broken rings. I'd try the pcv first, but i might do a compression test as well.
For sure,, make sure the pcv is good and that the lines are not crimped, collapsed. I have run into the same problem on a fresh motor. Was a crimped pcv line. Dan
...check oil level... (too full) if the rings were gone there would be more than ...the dip stick blow by... ... ...
hey.. here is a thought.. you might want to check the PCV valve.. they only cost about 4 bucks at the parts store.. and if that doesnt fix it, chcek your piston rings with a compression test, it could be that one is broken Capt. Obvious was here
Best case scenario: Oil level overfull Close second: Bad crank ventilation Worst case: Bad rings My gut says the worst, but I hope the best! Good luck Dave
