With all the discussion of cowl leaks, I was very apprehensive after the first big rain since getting our maverick to discover the passenger floorboards front and back soaked. There is NO rust visible on this 74 model and I couldn't imagine the cowl being in that bad a shape without seeing any other problems. And the floor pans are fine as well. After the next fairly light rain, I noticed the water had seeped in from behind the kicker pannel in front of the passenger door. Maybe it wasn't the cowl after all. Leaving school today in another light shower, I saw water coming in around the top of the windshield. The rubber windshield gasket is cracked at both top corners. The water only comes in if the rain comes in the right direction and the car is on a slight slope. I realize this is great news compared to the cowl leak, but I can't say I'm looking forward to changing the rubber around the glass, which is in great shape.
Thats alot better news than a bad cowl! Id have to swapped out at a dealer, that way you get a warranty
A dealer is going to have the weather strip for a 33 yr old car and have a warrenty on the installation?
Um yes.... why wouldn't they? If you can order the weather stripping why can't they? They may charge more to order it, so you could always order it and take it with you and they will warranty their work of installation. I priced it for a 66 F-100 and they had it and warrantied it, so dont see why they cant for a maverick thats atleast 4 years newer
for now.. take some black RTV and fill in the crack.. to get your through the rain until you can afford to replace the seal
