My uncle put a set in his 70. They don't fit well, and he did quite a bit of work to them. He does commercial canvas and boat canvas, so he has commercial sewing machines. It looks okay, but you can still tell it isn't right. The rear seats are substantially more different than you would think. The fronts are the same of course (71-73).

Chris M. In PA use Mustang seat covers front and rear on this 70 Grabber clone and they looked pretty good to me. If I ever get that far with mine to install front buckets I would love for mine to look as good as his did.

I've got a beautiful (blue) factory cover from my '72, looks like it's never been sat on. Removed to narrow seats for my minitub job. PM me if interested.

I need it in black and to match my fronts which will most likely be like the Mach 1 seat

JC Whitney used to sell custom Maverick rear seat covers. The place that makes them had the old patterns.

My uncle used 71-73 coupe back seat covers.
He put them in a 70 Maverick, so I guess that might be the difference according to another post. His seat back was wider than the Stang cover. The bottom is shaped a bit different too.

Mach rear seat (fastback) covers will NOT work. They are totally different.

Ratio is right about the folding Mach rear seat not working. The upper cover is split halfway up the back.

That leaves you with a choice of coupe or convertible covers in Standard or Deluxe patterns.

I have put a lot of work into prepping for this myself ... the 72-later rear seat bottom is narrower. I bought a set of coupe covers, and in retrospect, I believe that convertible covers would fit better width-wise.

Now, here is where it gets tricky ... the rear seat bottom cushion is much taller than the Mustang set, and the Mustang has more rise to it over the tunnel area. LDO rear seat bottoms are an inch taller than standard Mav seats as well. Very long soon-to-be tech article cut very short ... the rear seat bottom frame needs to be shortened 3 inches or so in height... you have to re-engineer the springs, and re-arch the tunnel. It was a lot of work and head-scratching, but my buddy that did upholstery for 20+ years looked at a trial fit of the cover and said that I pulled it off. It will be months before I am ready to upholster the seats, so that tech article will have to wait ... sorry.

The seat backs between Mav and Mustang coupe look like they well might be the same part ... very good fit. I am not sure if convertible Mustang seat backs are narrower, but I don't think they are. Measure to be sure.

Is there a difference between the 69 and the 70 mach 1 cover? I have some 73 maverick seats that seem to have decent foam. I'll be recovering without replacing the foam. As for the rears, my rear seat is in very good shape so all i need is the insert to match the front seats. I'll get an interior shop to add the comfortweave inserts to the rears to get matching interior.
