I am really upset now. I have procrastenated buying the MII parts I need to put my 72 suspension back together. I have the money and have been waiting for the perfect time to do it. I have alot of honey does on the board and then it decides to rain and get cold etc.. I have also been working on my house and it is near completion except for the master bath.. Anyway.. Today I was parked in front of my shop when out of nowhere I start hearing this sound I didn't like. The truck starts acting like it's miss fireing and spitting and sputtering. She dies.. I decide I will make room in the shop and put the truck inside and hitch a ride home with a friend who I was speaking to when all this happened. He informs me that he worked on a couple of these 4.7 motors that had the same symptoms. He says a push rod has possibly slipped out on the pass side. It sure sounds like it.. Delima is that if so, why? I have 240,000 miles on the motor. I don't like where this is heading.. My garage has two GT's in it and none are driveable. I was really hopeing I could get one on the road before summers end.
Are you getting a code on the check engine light? My dodge has done that a couple times, and every time it was just a mass air flow sensor or other sensor. Has always cost me less than $50 to fix it. Well, first time it cost me $250 because I took it to the shop. Second time it did it, I paid $100 for a decent code reader, and then $30-odd bucks for the sensor. Every time after that, I just have to pay for the sensors.
Remember a couple months back, I was out of town and I posted about my wife stalling on the road in my truck? We were long-distance diagnosing it and figured the power steering pump had seized... When I got home, put the code reader on it...sensor. $25, Done.
Wait till Darren or Pete see this, they'll know. My Dodge van acted like that, it was the cam position sensor.
I've seen the rocker assembly's break on 4.7s, we had one at a shop I used to work at that the cam bosses broke off. It still ran, not very good and made a heck of a noise.
I been talking to this guy. The tow bill is $260 to his shop from my house.. He is paying $100 of it. I think it's a really good price. I have not looked into the engine but am certain something is wrong. The noise is pretty loud and I have alot of miles. He will also be changing out all the coolant hoses at his cost of the parts. I know the area he is in and have actually passed his shop several times.. http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/3709306812.html
