Chilton's Maverick/Comet 1970-77 book says 8-15 ft/lbs. At least for the bolts that hold those C-clamps at the u-joint caps. If that is what you are asking.

I was told by the shop that shortened one of my driveshafts, to install new lock washers, and tighten the nuts until the lock washers flatten out. Then stop. If you overtighten them you will damage the u-joint.

That is the way I used to do mine. it ended up being around 10-15 ft/lbs.

x2 On the axle bolts. On the U joints? A little looser. A 5/16" NF needs to be around 25-35 ft/lbs. But I've never torqued these to spec. Just get em tight as you can with a 1/4" drive ratchet and socket

You speak german, does anything sound like "gooden taht" that translates to anything, or are we just making fun of the fact that you can say it with what we consider to be a german accent to make it sound funny (in our ears, at least).

Regardless, it may be politically incorrect for us to make fun of the german language...

no problem in making fun - i'm used to that. lived in the uk for half a year, that was pretty hard stuff :biglaugh:

but i got it, it *might* sound like "guten tag" which means "good day" as a greeting in german. but the pronounciation doesn't fit too well, so i thought it might be something different :thumbs2:
