Ok I have a new maverick project car and I'm thining about putting in a glide or a 350 turbo both of them use the same principle (ultra bell bolted to the pump after the old bell is cut off.) what do ya"ll thank. both trans are fairly cheep to build virtuly bulletproof.

For efficient DRAG race purpose....you CANNOT beat a powerglide :) They rob less horsepower....can be made to be as close to truly "bullet proof" as anything.....cost is manageable.
It will take a little more money initially....but if I was you...I would do it!
If I ever decide to get into the electronic classes....I will run a PG. :yup:

I would leave the turbo350 alone....you can get as much out of a C4.

Hmmmm..... Me thinks a Power Glide is better served on VERY high H.P. engine (>750hp+) in a Maverick (or other light car).

Unless you have gobs of torque (along with the hp's) the car could be very sluggish getting up to the "usuable" torque of the engine.

I'd go to the track and do some more investigating/talking to guys who run them. The guys with the PG's are usually big blocks with MANY cubes.

Unless you're going big block or a bored and stroked 351 base with a 300 shot of nitrous, I think you'll be dissapointed. BTW, what IS the engine going to be?

Unless it's a BBF or the above, I'd stick with the C4.

Good luck whichever way you go.

    edit: I'm back

When should I use a powerglide instead of a three speed?
A powerglide is most useful in light cars with high horsepower to weight ratio. A powerglide as built by Art Carr Performance products allows the torque converter to multiply torque for a longer time. Torque is what accelerates the vehicle forward. Three speed transmissions with low rear end gears don't allow the maximum torque multiplication available from the torque converter. High horsepower (800 and up) to weight (2500 and down) ratios benefit from the powerglide."

good point Rick (y) ...and I guess I should have indulged further.....

when I mentioned running the "electronic classes" I was referring to transbrakes and BIG rpm launches.....My car with its light weight and decent horsepower would really shine with a PG.

*And I am sure with a car over 400 ponies, light weight (under 2,800 with driver) would be improved, performance wise, with a PG.
