Well maybe I do but, I bought a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser, it runs decent and has a great interior and the outside is very nice, it has an issue of acting like it pops out of gear, it will drive and change gears fine but it will just act like it goes to neutral after some time, I can turn off the ignition and start it back up and it will go again until it does it's little no gears thing, I have read it may be the input or output speed sensors or the control pack for those sensors, the sensors are $39,95 each and the control pack is $205.00, good thing is the parts won't cost me any cash as I have $325.00 in vouchers for parts, I paid very little for this car and am looking to "flip" it for a small profit, I figure I can at least easily double my money on it and that includes the price of the parts, do ya'll think I should buy the sensors first and try them or buy those and the control pack and change it all at one time? Anybody else got any experience with a PT Cruiser? anybody read anything other than what I have on the subject? Here is the car....
The speed sensors will put it into limp in. 2nd gear. They wont give you a neutral no drive condition. Same goes for the solenoid pack. They will also set fault codes and turn on the CEL lamp. How does the fluid condition and level look? My next step would be drop the trans pan and check for debris and or plugged filter. Seen more than one PT with a failed torque converter plug the filter. Hopefully you can get it fixed and dump it. Horrible cars to work on.
Fluid is perfect looking and smelling, the level is correct, as I said though, once it does the neutral thing, all I have to do to get going again is shut off the ignition and then start it back up and I have gears once again, I have even done it while still rolling with the gear selector in neutral, put it in drive and off it goes, yes the CEL lamp is on, it changes gears nicely until it does the neutral thing, that kinda leads me to an electrical condition or sensor, I only paid $600.00 for the car and it has almost new directional tread tires on it, I have not noticed if I put it in 2nd gear on the selector if it will still drive, I will check that part out next to see.
It puts itself into 2nd gear as a limp in mode when it sets a trans fault. A key cycle will get normal operation back until it acts up again. then back into 2nd it will go. Do you actually get a neutral condition or just the high rpm jump as it limps into 2nd???
