I am wanting to remove the Door Glass so I can remove the beltline weatherstripping prior to paint and then reinstall the repops. The Window is connected to the bottom track via two holes in the glass. There is a plastic piece going through the holes. Does the plastic "nut" pop out, screw off or use some other ingenious method to hold the glass to the bottom track? Even the shop manuals don't explain in enough detail how to remove the glass. Thanks ...

In the center of the plastic piece is a plastic pin. Take a long narrow phillips screw driver and drive the pin out. Then you can reach around the backside and compress the plastic retainer. They will pop right out.

I'm currently in the process of doping the same thing but have a question on the beltline. In removing the old one, does it just pop out? I tried but it looks like I'll have to cut the old one off. I couldn't get it to pop out without bending the crap out the doors metal lip. :hmmm:

Yup, went back outside and figured it out, thanks. Since we're still talking about the door, are the smaller inside door handles a simple remove/replace from the larger ones or are the bolt holes different. I have the larger ones but want to go to the smaller ones.

I assume you are wanting to go from the '73 and up arm rests to the older '70-'72 style. There will not be any simple way. The '70-'72 arm rests will bolt up to the later door, but you will not be able to make it look right since the door panel has a hole in it where the top of the grab handle part of the later arm rests screw on. The easiest way to go from the later style to the early style is to replace the doors with '70-'72 doors.

You MAY be able to replace the door panels with '70-'72 panels, and carefully cut a hole down near the bottom front where the later style door open/release lever is. Then you could bolt up the '70-'72 arm rest, replaceing the plastic piece underneath it with one from the rear doors of a 4 door, so that it does not have the provision for the early style door release handles. As a matter of fact, I think that would be pretty cool... I may just have to try that myself!

What I'm contemplating on doing is reupholstering my current panels, covering the upper hole from the later style handles and using the small early style handles if the bolt holes line up.

I am 99% sure the bolt holes will line up. However, the early style arm rests use a plastic piece to space the arm rest off the door a little, whereas the later style arm rests mount flush against the door panel. So I'm not sure if the two arm rest holes may be sticking out a little further on the early doors.

I'm going to look into it this weekend.
