Has anyone successfully replaced the particle board backing on the door panels? The vinyl itself on my door panels is a little wrinkled, but otherwise in great shape. On my drivers side panel the vinyl was comeing loose along the top. So I pulled the panel and it appears someone that didn't know what they were doing has pulled the panel in the past and messed up the particle board where the clips slip over it. It's broken at almost every clip and falling apart. I don't see how the door panel was even staying on. I pulled the passenger side one also to put a passenger side sport mirror off my '74 on and it is the same way. The vinyl is about half way loose on both panels, wouldn't take much more to take it completely off. Figgured I could use the old particle board as a template to transfer the holes to a new piece board. If anyone has tried this, where did you get the board and what thickness? What did you use to reattach the vinyl? Thanks.
yes.i cut the rivit off, so there was still a little stub. then used a flat speed nut to hold it in place
Yeah ... I've repaired cracked panels with Wood Glue ... The panels in my Grabber were warped when I got them ... like they were leaning agains a wall for a long time. I wet the backs and then placed them between two peices of carpet with weights on top and let them dry to flatten them back out ..
one of mine has always been really bad. i wood glued it and did some straightening so you can only tell if you really stare at it. just drives me crazy because i know its there. fan, thanks i am pretty sure i can picture what your talking about.
